Neil Thorpe, President and Owner of Desired Plumbing, Inc., lived in Marin County for twenty-one years. In 2001, Neil graduated from Novato High School and started attending the Academy of Arts College, where he studied automotive design. He has always enjoyed doing "hands on" work and started looking for a part-time job. This lead him to the perfect opportunity to get the chance to do hands on work and Neil started working with a local plumbing company.
He started his career with an elite plumbing company as an apprentice. He was very interested in being able to put pipes together and see the finished product. His apprenticeships quickly lead him to a journeymen position. Neil has always strived to be a better plumber and always takes pride in his work, and it shows. During his career, he continued to challenge himself to learn every aspect of the trade. To this day, he loves the challenge of putting together projects and being able to keep the customer happy with their design. Keeping the customer happy makes him happy. He will always go the extra mile to meet and discuss with the customer the different options they have. He takes the time to listen and communicates from start to finish. He knows that even the smallest detail can make or break a design. Neil is known for "caring" beyond just plumbing.
Neil continued to work with the same company for 11 yrs but with the birth of identical twin boys, Neil was given the separation needed from his employer to start Desired Plumbing, Inc. The name Desired was an easy choice as it represents Neil's daughter Desiree (which means to desire in French), who always believed her dad could start this business.
Neil believes educating his employees beyond the workday is what sets Desired Plumbing, Inc. apart from the rest. We take our education seriously, as it benefits our company and clients and also paves the way for the future plumbers in the industry.

This water heater is similar to your conventional tank heater, but uses a blower to recycle the heat from the exhaust to achieve higher efficiency. This heater has a moderate amount of moving parts and requires an electrical outlet to operate. The exhaust piping is typically plastic and has many venting options to accommodate both new and older homes.

Tankless water heaters never run out of hot water. This tank should not be mistaken with instant hot water, which is a completely different kind of install. Under the right circumstances, this water heater can be very efficient. Tankless heaters have many electronics and moving parts along with a heat exchanger to create constant hot water. This particular heater works in a way that it doesn’t need to have gas consistently feeding to the heater, but rather only uses the gas when the hot water is in use. This heater also requires regular maintenance. Depending on the water quality of the area where you live, you would have to decalcify the heat exchanger every 3-6 months. The exhausts for these heaters are plastic or aluminum, which is not typically something that you can incorporate into the existing pipes of your home. It would require an additional step to the installation process. Tankless heaters are smaller and can be installed inside or outdoors, giving you more options when choosing where to place them.

Electric tank water heaters are typically used when there are no gas or exhaust options available. These heaters use a heating element to raise the temperature of the water. Although the technology is always getting better, they still tend to lack efficiency when it comes to the hot water recovery. These units require a 220v power source to provide heat. Without needing exhaust, they may be your only option under certain circumstances. Electric heaters have minimal parts and when installed properly, they can be easily serviced.

This process is how refrigerators work, but heat pump water heaters do the reverse while a fridge expels hot air. RADIANT HEATING
Desired Plumbing, Inc. is ready to provide you with expert service for all your radiant heating needs. If you are not familiar with the radiant heat (hydronics), we can fill you in on some of basics. A radiant heating system consists of a series of copper and or plastic tubes running thru the floors, walls or radiators. With the use of water pumps, water circulates from a boiler (water heater), through the series of tubes which than expel the heat to the floor or radiator. This process continues until the thermostat measures the desired room temperature.
If you are considering a new radiant heat system, there are many different styles to accommodate all types of budgets. For example, you could have a system controlled by one single thermostat for the whole home, or with a bigger budget, you can have a radiant heat system giving you full control of the temperature in every room of the home. In addition to heating your home, you can also configure a radiant system to heat the water for your home. Something to keep in mind when deciding between a radiant heating system and forced air: radiant heat systems do not blow dust around, they are very efficient and can provide you with total control when heating your home.
